The Hackney Cypriot Association (HCA) was established in 1976 and has been at its current premises, 5 Balls Pond Road, since 1982. It gained charity status in 2003.
The Association was created with the aim of bringing together members of the Cypriot community of Hackney, despite the cultural tensions which occur in Cyprus to this day. The staff and volunteers are Greek and Turkish speaking and reflect the diversity of the Association’s members and the wider local community. Today, the Hackney Cypriot Association is a meeting point for people of all ages, from Hackney and beyond.
The Association provides a recreational space where Cypriots can come together to meet and socialise, as well as providing outings, exhibitions, seminars and dinner and dances. Activities include our award-winning Lunch Club, monthly film club and bi-monthly Bingo. Our incredibly popular Cypriot Pop-Up Restaurant take place every few months. .
Alongside running recreational activities, the centre aims to improve the living conditions of Cypriots in the community and provides support to those who need it. The centre has an Advice and Translation Office, organises health information workshops and runs community outreach programmes.
Our members and guests are at the heart of what we do. They help us shape our plans for activities, services and events, and will continue to do so into the future..
We warmly thank all volunteers, contributors and donors and hope to see you at the Association soon!
